this is actually some of the last records ever produced by the mysterious guillaume la tortue, one of the pioneer of electronic music in france, who�s quoted by laurent garnier in his infamous �electrochoc� book as one of his main influence back in the days.

the record opens on the �main course�: a classic tech-house number with a beautiful 909 beat and a tasteful use of various samples and fx all through the track. the funky vocals still sound fresh today but the secret here (as often with chris carrier�s related work) is the groove � the kind of groove that reminds you summer days in the park while the strong bass-line announces already the next track.
on the flip, �starter� stands out as the perfect dancefloor killer with an infernal groove and a real fat analog bass-line that will keep you moving whether you want it or not. add just a few crispy tribal percussions on a classic raw 909 beat and you got the simplest and dubbiest song of the record but also the most efficient dancefloorwise.
the last cut, �apple pie�, might be the deepest of them all. spacy melodies and trippy vocals in the background make you first feel like you�re chillin on some extraterrestrial beach far away from earth. it starts as a nice breakbeat building the atmosphere before slowly evolving into a more 4-4esque tech-house with the bass coming in only after a couple of minutes. even if the sound was resolutely analogic, the whole ep is extremely well produced with a special care for details. at many levels this three-track ep is a landmark in the label history.

having previously released some rare solo material from ende shneafliet member hanjo erkamp aka dr. c. stein, artificial dance is now serving up something special from the cult dutch minimal wave band�s lesser-known side project, king ende shneafliet. adding king to their name in honour of original dub maestro king tubby, king ende shneafliet produced far more experimental and out-there material than their better-known big brother. they released their first cassette, dimension mix chapter i in 1981 via cult label trumpett, with batches of follow-up material trickling out on various obscure tapes and later cd-rs up to the year 2000. artificial dances first dip into the dimension mix archives a second vinyl volume will follow later in the year features selections from chapter ii (1999), which was originally recorded between 1981 and �88. the magical, mind-altering music is raw, lo-fi, spaced-out and forward-thinking, combining effects-laden, sample-heavy sound collages and reverberating ambient soundscapes with pulsating proto-electro jams, moody minimal wave instrumentals and kosmiche-influenced throw-downs. it effectively joins the dots between early-80s, diy electronic exploration and dub soundsystem culture.

what do you get when you cross a frenchman, a dane, two irishmen and a swede? the debut various artists compilation from kyoku records, of course. gathering the producers who make up their whole discography thus far, the melbourne-based imprint are welcoming back dorsi plantar, sune, long island sound and ethyene (alongside folamour and marc bianco). translating from japanese to a befitting -dancing birds-, the odoru tori ep is revitalizing the elegant origami series for one last spin. the orizuru, hachidori, oumu and hakucho, that is, the paper crane, the hummingbird, the parrot and the swan are bringing the handmade array to a suitable conclusion. on the a side, the scandinavian connection is responsible for bringing some summer heat. dorsi plantar sheds his usual wistfulness for a slightly moodier, more functional track with -senorita lolita-, although still incorporating some of that playful sampling he s now come to be known for. -californicate- from sune takes a more laidback approach and channels the breezy and carefree atmosphere of the coastal golden state. on the flip side, long island sound follow the same recipe that made -delusions- such a big hit with the intricate sampling and eloquent arrangement of -ease in-. to top things off, ethyene, with the help of folamour and marc bianco, close out the record with a groovy, vocal number that sees them employ their signature french touch formula to great effect on the simply titled -good-.

conforce returns under his silent harbour guise this august with the �noctiluca� mini lp, a six track collection set for release via copenhagen�s echocord. dutch producer boris bunnik has been releasing material under various guises over the past two decades such as conforce, versalife, hexagon, vernon felicity and of course silent harbour which he revisits here following 2015�s �hinterland� on deep sound channel and the self-tilted inauguration of the project in 2012 on echocord. the beatless drones of �riparian� open the package, perfectly setting the tone with murky bell like chimes, rumbling subs and splashes of white noise before title-track �noctiluca� picks up the pace, tipping the focus over to bubbling dub echoes, glitched out, minute percussion and a sturdy muted kick to keep things driving. �dwelling� is up next, featuring expansive, washed out synth textures, cavernous bass tones and modulating percussion throughout. leading on the b-side of the release is �peridinum�, employing classic dub techno tropes with an amalgamation of choppy stab sequences dynamically evolving over off-beat hats and a thunderous kick. �fusiformis� strips things rhythmically whilst keeping the bubbling delays and expansive reverbs at it�s core before closing track �pelagia� brings bright, resonant synth lines, delayed percussive hits and tension building synth bass into the limelight.

dauwd returns to technicolour with -theory of colours - versions- ep. a new 4-tracker ep containing remixes/reworks of various singles from his debut album. the ep opens with a piano rework of analogische memories , recoded at his studio in berlin and the result of countless hours work - -it took some time, as i had to learn to play piano- dauwd explains. dauwd also makes up one third of the berlin collective, party and radio show, african acid is the future having previously released on kompakt and ghostly international. ukrainian music producer and leleka label boss vakula provides a remix of macadam therapy . fresh from the release of his well received lp -metaphors- and following on from last years -techno game- released via arma and -cyclicality between procyon and gomeisa- released via dekmantel in 2016. aaitf partner romain azzaro aka rouge mécanique provides two remixes of murmure (one -walking-, the other -running-) - -romain and i returned to the studio where i made much of the album in utrecht in the netherlands. we got to experiment again with many of the wonderful machines they had there, in particular the original roland system 700-.

echocord�s colour sub-label returns early june with a four- track ep from eindhoven�s albert van abbe in the shape of �klangbilder�. dutch techno artist albert van abbe has nearly two decades of experience under his belt in various forms of musical and visual expression, releasing on his own vanabbe imprint, figure jams, semantica and no comment, as well as playing live and djing at hot spots across the globe such as berghain, tresor, dgtl and awakenings festival. �klangbilder 1� leads with a robust rhythmic drive, employing bumpy toms, shuffled hats and lumpy kicks at its core as vacillating synths, tension building drones and menacing pizzicato strings develop throughout. �klangbilder 2� takes things deeper next, retaining the dusty drums sound of the previous cut whilst stirring in airy ethereal pads and choppy, resonant stab sequences. �klangbilder 3� kicks off the b-side with modulating synth whirrs, emotive organ tones and a muted drum tones throughout before �klangbilder 4� closes the package, taking things beatless and cinematic via emotive synth leads, droning subs and expansive echoes.

this hampshire & foat project should not come as too much of a surprise to those familiar withgreg& warren s music, influenced heavily by not just jazz but the library sound of the 60s and 70s along with film soundtracks from the same golden era.greg& warren are avid collectors of this music,gregsends me links night and day to lps he has picked up digging on his travels. this constant search sends him down new musical pathways and often sparks a whole new concepts for projects. warren andgregare both fiercely creative talented individuals which means we have to keep them working, a challenge for us all, but the music rewards the effort many times over. we had talked for a long time about doing a library style lp (somethinggregis very passionate about) so during different recording sessionsgreg& warren started laying down various tracks with a view to the lp we have here. side one is 5 tracks in very distinct styles, musical paintings for the big screen. the vast sound of the japanese influenced jasmine, the spaghetti western melancholy of mariposa lily, the call to action that is antonio s theme, the breezy vintage sports car in the sun that coastal drivepaints, and lost in nostalgia, a late night poirotesk piece. side 2 is a classic library suite, whichgregdescribes as a detective s theme with different variations on the motifs.

best effort records jumps out of the box with their inaugural release �number one� - a selection of tracks that celebrate friends making music together. cold emotion are danny wild and rory stenning. the duo explore improvised club music using various keyboards and modular synthesisers. �toast� is a track taken from an extensive live recording session from 2015. accidental cv messages create unexpected cyclic baseline patterns while keyboard melodies float freely above jacking modular beats. the result is an imperfect, inspired club jam ready for any occasion. -cantao- pitches things down from the hypnotic frenzy of -toast- to offer a unique hybrid between computerized dub, subaquatic g-funk and triphop ambiance. canadian content! -manipulate me- is a collaboration between ivy barkakati and phran. the stark, alienated quality of ivy s spoken vocals & dark subject matter sounds even more claustrophobic and sinister backed up by the duo s frigid machine-funk, which is more in the spirit austere & icy 80s coldwave than modern house music. metric systems are a duo from somewhere in australia. the fathoms-deep -adaptation dub�, recored in 2009, is reminiscent of australia s after-hour dub technicians sheriff lindo or andy rantzen. look out for a full lp later in the year

as non state�s inaugural release, the lake ep by jarvus is a textural exploration into unknown realms, with each passing movement painting imagery of coarse landscapes, from the rolling, insomniac daze of �rock pools�, filled with warm, bouncing bass sequences and synth-pad whirlwinds, to the submersible resonance of �lake mist�, projecting feelings of fragility and under-water claustrophobia as tribal-esque rhythms act as a calming mantra.
produced by processing all kinds of expressive sounds through various guitar pedals and using circuit bending or diy instruments, jarvus fuses downtempo-techno into atmospheric, mesmerising movements rather than folding into conventional structures.

anyone who�s followed maurice aymard�s galaktika label over the years will be all too aware of the imprint�s leaning toward eclectic sounds. it�s an ethos that mirrored in the work of aymard himself and regardless of whether he�s turning his hand to tech house sounds or more straight-up techno jams, his is a way of working that�s endeared him to many over the years. his latest is a case in point. the 75th chapter in the galaktika discography, the into the night ep serves up an array of sounds that are enticing as they are upbeat and intriguing. getting us underway is the sounds of the title track. an unfurling beast of a track that�s loaded with dramatic tension throughout, it�s an eerie cut that�s characterised by its clever bells and some incessant percussion. a full on track that�s not to be handled lightly, it�s repetitive nature and sporadic vocal charms is indicative of levon vincent at his best. �shinning�, a more progressive cut, follows after. another track that�s notable for the suspense that lingers throughout, it serves up a nice stylistic alternative to what�s arrived before. aymard then goes all out on the frankly astounding sounds of �rage�. a propulsive gem of the type that sees the producer greatly rewarded for trying something that bit different, it�s a special sort of track that takes on various tones throughout but always stays captivating. seeing us out soon after is eduardo de la calle�s remix of the latter. the cadenza man is well versed in all things deep and dextrous, and his interpretation serves up a fitting example of his talents. although it starts on a melodic tip, it too soon brings the listener on a thoroughly captivating but unexpected journey. much like the rest of this ep, de la calle�s remix is full of surprises from the off.

following on the psyfunk label compilation, that shed a great deal of attention on the budding argentine scene, is a full ep from alan castro. alan castro�s track �mi alma intoxicada� was a highlight of various artists #01 , definitively floaring and delicately rolling. on this new ep, castro shows his complex capacities in composition. �ciderfunk� is without a doubt one of the most mind-boggling tracks we�ve heard for a very long time. backed by �pacuriver� and �db mucho� which are both equally as intricate, as the epically adventurous a-side.

pear004 shows pear dip into the local pool again, delivering the debut release by berlin-based kilkenny native (+ 1&#8260.2 of g.e.o. corp) george earnest.
�a dreaming island� is an elegy to hedonistic isle living , drifting in and out through 6 balearic-tinged varieties all referencing various styles of early to late 90�s house music & new age tropes.
on the a side, you�ve got a prelude of sorts in �a storm� followed by the panpipe delirium of �organ of evening calm� while we signal halftime with the breaks�n�bouncey moves of �a dreaming island�.
b side gets trent-y with the beautiful �mermaid dive�, then gets heart wrenching thru the midi guitar shredding of �awake my friend� and sails away with the conclusion �a sea�.
